Certified Fairtrade - What does it mean?

Certified Fairtrade delivers a better deal for growers and producers in the developing world by:

Setting a fair price (the Fairtrade Price) for their produce
Stipulating an addition to the Fairtrade Price (the Fairtrade Premium) to be invested in social, economic and environmental development in their communities. (e.g educational and medical facilities)
Protecting them from world market price fluctuations
Prohibiting the use of forced or abusive child labour

What is Certified Organic?

Where possible, we buy from producers who grow food without the use of chemical fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides because this provides long-term productivity and a better product for our customers. Where this process has been recognised by a certifying body, it is indicated on the product and packaging.

Australian Certified Organic (ACO)

Australian Certified Organic (ACO) currently certifies about 55% of the Australian organic industry. ACO estimates the bud logo appears on about 70% of all certified organic products in Australia.

Educated consumers are happy to pay a fair price for the guarantee that the organic produce they purchase is supporting farmers who aim for ecologically sustainable practices.

USDA Certified Organic Close

What is USDA Certified Organic?

The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP) accredits private businesses, organisations, and state agencies to certify producers and handlers of agricultural products according to the NOP regulations. USDA certifies our new fairtrade organic coffee that is grown, roasted and packed in East Timor.

Value Add Close

What is value adding?

The most significant way we can trade more fairly is to buy products that have been value added - processed and packed - in their country of origin. Value adding assists less industrialised economies to move into modern-economy activities. Otherwise they remain sources of cheap commodities and of cheap labour for multinationals. Buying value added products from a developing country is the best possible way to assist their social progress and financial self reliance. It is the most sustainable form of assistance we can give.
